Maintenance and inspection of the complete set of power generation equipment from our Portugal customer

Our company exported the unit to Portugal in 2013 (Turbine model CJA475-W-75/1X7 and Generator Model SFW800-6P), but due to the adjustment of local policies, it was not put into operation after installation. Now this set of equipment is ready to be put into use at the request of the customer. Our after-sales service department actively cooperates with the customer to complete the installation. Various testing work before the test machine, try to let the customer drive successfully at the first time, and realize the grid-connected power generation as soon as possible.

Customer wanna if the pair turbine+generator is efficient considering a water head of 183m and a max output at the public grid of 250 KW. And we send our professional suggestions as below:

Under the current hydraulic conditions (water head is 183 m and the flow rate is 0.179 cubic meter), it can be calculated to match the original turbine model CJ-W-75/1*7. The guaranteed output of the turbine is 282kw, but because the water head is reduced (the original design water head is 350 m), the speed becomes 750rpm. It can not match up the original generator SFW-800-6-990 (speed 1000 rpm). When the speed of the generator is higher than the rated speed of the turbine, the generator will consume the electricity from the public grid, and drive the turbine after the grid is connected, and the turbine will waste water to do useless work (can not generate electricity and lose the electricity on the public network). So if you want to start this HPP, we propose the following two options

1. The gear box proposal:  add a geal box between the turbine and the generator with a transmission ratio of 1:1.33. This method can use the existing generator, but the disadvantage of the geal box solution is that the power generation loss is 6%-10% (There are differences between different brands) . It is necessary to add another set of lubricating oil cooling and filtration system and need to replace the lubricating oil regularly to increase the maintenance cost.

2. Replacing the generator proposal:  Replace a new 250kw with 750rpm generator. The original 880kw generator can be used as a backup generator for future efficiency expansion (the power company allows larger grid capacity), and it can also be sold as second-hand equipment.

Finally customer choose to change use a smaller generator(250KW) running at a low speed(750rpm) for replacement.
